So I was trying to open one of the Indesign files in my external drive and it won't open. It says that the Alias "File-name.indd" can't be opened because the original item can't be found and that’s the original file.

Is there something I can do to fix this or is it that my hard drive is going bad?

Thanks

Are you able to try opening the file on another system, be it Windows or Mac based? Or perhaps even an older version of InDesign?

Those are some of the suggestions Adobe suggest right off the hop, but if you REALLY get stuck, you can find the links on their support pages to actually SEND them the files to investigate further.

Another suggestion would be to copy the full file and any other required assets of those files to your main drive, the one the hosts the OS and Application install, then try to open it.
