iPhone SE (2016) Initiate workout on iphone se

Hello all.
I'm new at this so be gentle.
Can someone explain how I can initiate a workout on my iphone se.
I know I can select a workout from my apple watch se, but I'd like to select the type of workout, i.e., Elliptical, walk, running or whatever, from my iphone. Is it possible? Can't seem to find out where I can select these activities on my iphone se.
