I want to install Catalina inside a VM to test compatibility with some stuff before I upgrade. Will it require my Apple ID after setting up Catalina inside the VM? I don’t want to use my Apple ID inside vm when i already have it activated on boot drive. But I remember every time I’ve set up Mac OS on a first Boot in the past it would ask for apple ID is there a way to skip that?

You don't need an AppleID to install macOS. You can skip the AppleID part of the first boot configuration.
