I read on the MacWorld website that the best way to install Panther is to do the Archive and Install, where it keeps your user account. Does this also mean that any directories (Desktop files, Documents, Applications, etc) are kept? I would hope so- because the thought of backing up 15 gigs worth of files and having to reinstall all my software makes my stomach hurt.

Anyone know the answer?

the anser is yes, it will keep all your settings, apps, desktop, your iTunes music (if you had the default iTunes music folder in your home folder) and your iPhoto library too.

it is a good way to upgrade if you canot be botherd to install all the apps again. that said I chose to do a clean install anyway, it is worth the time.
