Intel plans to heavily reduce prices

A leaked Intel roadmap by HKEPC shows a agressive pricing strategy for the second half of 2007. Quadcore will get mainstream and dualcores will become very cheap. If the rumor is true the prices will drop dramatically.

For example: the Q6600 quad core 2.4Ghz processor is currently priced at $ 851,- . This price will drop to $ 530,- at the end of april and it will drop to $ 266,- in the second half of 2007.

The dual cores are to drop even more dramatically; currently a Dual Core 2.93Ghz processor with a 1066Mhz FSB costs $ 999,- but in the second half of 2007 a 3.0Ghz processor with a 1333Mhz FSB is rumored to cost only $ 266,-.

If this rumor is true (HKEPC is rated quite trustworthy) this is a very agressive strategy from Intel. While this is positive for the consumer it poses a threat for both AMD as Intel itselve looking at revenue.

There are a few flaws with the table as presented - esp with the Celeron Chips at the bottom. The 430 and 440 are mobile chips that are clocked lower than what is indicated, have more L2 Cache and a lower bus. These prices look interesting but if they can't get their models right how can I believe that any of this info is correct?

The 430 and 440 are mobile chips that are clocked lower than what is indicated, have more L2 Cache and a lower bus. These prices look interesting but if they can't get their models right how can I believe that any of this info is correct?

Do you think they might be increasing the speeds?
