when using mac os x (10.1.3) i connect to the internet through a dial-up modem. sometimes when i download a pretty big file the system automatically disconnects because of network inactivity. is there a way to change this, so that it doesn't disconnect in the middle of a download, just because i'm not using the internet?

The only suggestion I can think of is to switch your modem type from 56K internal V.90 to V.34 in your Network pane of System Preferences.
