My kids routinely tether their iPads of of my wife and my iPhone personal hotspots (aka tethering).

Since upgrading to iOS 13.6 my kids have been getting warning messages that our (our their, or both) devices are in low data mode.

Has anyone else seen this? Is this a real bug or just a nuisance message? I’ve never used low data mode on my phone.

It seems like toggling personal hotspot off/on and or low data mode on/off has made this message go away from my phone, at least.

It happens on 13.5.1 as well. So it’s not a 13.6 only bug.

It’s not a bug, the device receiving the tethering will enable Low Data Mode to conserve cellular data.
You can change it in Settings - WiFi - tap the blue i - then disable Low Data Mode.

Great, thank you! Strange we never noticed this on iOS 13.5.1.

It’s a good idea for a feature. But probably not something that should be on by default.
