How to install beta via OTA?
  1. Enable Beta Updates (Settings>General>Software Updates>Beta Updates)
  2. Check and sign into the right Apple ID to access beta
  3. Select which beta you would like to receive (Public/Developer)
  4. Hit "Back" and pull down to refresh
  5. Do an encrypted backup or iCloud backup before installing the beta from release build
  6. Install the beta
If you no longer wish to receive beta updates:
  1. Turn off the Beta Updates (you can also sign out of your Apple ID to unlink your developer account)
  2. Wait for the next public release or follow the guide below to install the IPSW release build
Troubleshoot: Sometimes, the beta update will not show so you may need to enable/disable Airplane Mode or restart your device before rechecking for update.

How to install beta via IPSW on Mac?
  1. You will need to install either Xcode beta or MobileDevice.pkg which can be extracted from the Xcode beta (tap with two finger or right click to Show Package Content>Contents>Resources>Packages>MobileDevice.pkg - this will work on older Macs that do not support the latest macOS or Xcode beta)
  2. Do an encrypted backup in Finder in case you need to restore your device
  3. Hold down Option + Check for Update and select the appropriate IPSW file for your device (whether you're updating to a newer/beta firmware, reinstalling the same firmware or downgrading to previous firmware while retaining all your data) downloaded from Apple using your free developer account. Note: You must have an active internet connection as it will check the IPSW signing status before it will proceed with the update.
  4. Enter your iPhone passcode once prompted to proceed.
Notes/Tips:
  • Always keep a backup in case you need to restore your data if you restore your device
  • It may be better to close all apps before installing the updates and/or turn off your device for about a minute or restart a few minutes after your device is updated
  • You can also manually select the IPSW if you are restoring your device using Option + Restore iPhone. Restore will wipe all your personal data which you will need to restore your backup either using iCloud backup or Finder/iTunes backup
  • You do not need to install the MobileDevice.pkg from each Xcode beta version unless Finder does not recognize the new iOS beta
  • There is no MobileDevice.pkg equivalent to iTunes for PC which would require a new iTunes to support new/beta iOS
  • If you receive a new iPhone, you can connect to Mac to update or restore your device to the latest iOS before setting up your device.
  • You can also use the Recovery Mode/DFU to update or restore your device by manually selecting IPSW

When I go to the App Store and check for updates the apps that need updating and are installed are missing their icons. Weird.

It did not fix sync bug. It gets stuck at "preparing to sync" when trying to sync iphone with computer.

Part of the preparing to sync is to invoke MDCrashReportTool which stalls at that stage.

Workaround:

One can kill MDCrashReportTool with this command in terminal:

Code:
pkill -9 "MDCrashReportTool"

Then the sync resumes.

Note that MDCrashReportTool still works with iPad syncing and so does not need to be killed for iPads. It only affects iphones.

Not again. This is core functionality and really should have priority. i don’t care if some colourful blinking blob of whatever doesnt work. But being able to SYNC for a mobile phone… What’s their priority at Apple? What else can be more important?

What OS version on the computer side and phone model?

Just updated this morning (am in Europe) and now touch screen is not working on 15PM. Anyone experienced something similar? Very weird and surprising to have to deal with. Hard reset tried and it is certainly clean, seems related to the update.

iOS 17.3 and (probably) 17.3.1 are the buggiest (for me) yet.

First I had a bug that my messages were disappearing as soon as I hit send.
Today on 17.3.1 when I opened messages app some threads were literally gone like I deleted them but they finally showed up after I forced closed the app several times.

Lots of stutters in safari especially when going into incognito mode and opening a new tab.
Now I'm seeing from time to time a lag when scrolling on a Home Screen to a widget panel. There's no animation at all, it just "jumps" to it after 2-3 seconds.

Since updating to 17.3 my iPhone 13 Pro Max keeps disconnecting from the wifi and doesn't want to connect again. I either have to try 20 times or restart the phone. And no, that's not a router fault, wifi used to work perfectly fine on previous iOS versions and I'm not seeing the same problem with my Mac, PS5 or Dell laptop.

Camera has delays in taking pictures. For example yesterday I wanted to take a picture, I tapped on the screen and I saw the animation that It took the picture so I thought I'm fine and then I went home and I was surprised when I found out that it actually took a picture a second later... of a ground when I wanted to put my phone into my pocket. It was bright outside so night mode wasn't on, I also have Live Photos off.

My BMW's idrive controller stops working with CarPlay once again. I had this problem with iOS 17.0 betas, then it was fixed and now it's back. Restart fixes the issue but Jesus at this point I'd need to restart this phone every single day to make everything work.

I'll check how 17.3.1 works but I'm pretty sure there won't be any difference between this one and 17.3 especially when my wifi stopped working 1,5h after the upgrade 🤷🏼‍♂️

This version (and 17.3 when I think of it) has stopped suggesting emojis when typing a word with an associated emoji. For example, when doing my shopping list in Reminders, I type milk and it used to suggest the 🥛 emoji. But it doesn’t any longer.

FaceTime sound is broken on the iPhone 11 Pro after this update. I can hear the other person fine but the other person can’t hear a sound. I have tried it with multiple contacts and the issue is same. Anybody else having this?

That's a crazy amount of issues.
I have the 13pro (not max) and haven't come across any of these (the idrive issue I can't comment, don't have a beemer).

Does a reset of the network settings change anything on the router issue?
I've been using the phone with a number of WiFi networks and so far no issues, but that doesn't say much tbh, there are so many settings and systems out there. Have you tried other WiFi networks, same issue?
You using any additional software that can mess up the network connectivity (VPN, Proxy, antivirus, .1x or anyting similar)?

Same on my IPhone 15. Entire threads have disappeared and continue disappearing from whatsapp (and maybe other apps)

I have this bug since the update with my iCloud storage, it seems that my backup (which exists, however, of 2.2 GB) does not exist or is not taken into account in the iCloud storage bar, result: I'm at only 600mb, wtf...

Another amazing bug with iOS 17.3.1 - why does it ask me for a passcode if FaceiD unlocked the phone? Swiping up doesn’t unlock the phone, it forces me to put a passcode. That’s fourth time since updating to 17.3.1…

Also, as you can see I have 40% battery left with 3h08min SOT and it’s 3pm 🙃

Nothing new, but 17.3.1 fails to fix the Safari issue for me where the upper and lower areas go gray and require rebooting Safari to fix. Basically the search bar and all the buttons disappear and the whole area turns gray, and then a bar at the top appears and is gray as well. Annoying, and been there since 17.2.
