iPad IOS 8 eating up my battery life IPad Air

I have an iPad Air and installed IOS 8 last night, so far Safari has been very slow and my battery life is looking like being around half of what it was before. I hope they fix this soon because I've updated my Apps so I don't know whether I can go back to 7

You should still be able to go back to iOS 7 as long as Apple is signing it.

I might try to hold off until tomorrow, I'll do a full reboot tonight and full recharge and see how it goes, fingers crossed.

I don't know what's going on, it's dropped from 8% to 4% in just a few minutes and earlier from 21% to 14%, it just seems to drop all of a sudden. I'd better put it on the charger before I run out.

It is dropping by the minute in my Retina Mini.

And the processing icon on top is constantly spinning when I hve Safari open. It only did it before when a page was opening. Now it's all the time. Per the battery usage by app stats, Safari is clocking in at 87% for me.

Safari has eaten 17% of my battery in just over an hour from 21% to 4%. Battery usage says Safari 92%.

See my iPad Air is jailbroken on ios 7.1.2 and with noslowanimation tweak I see no reason to update my iPad.

I'm getting the iphone 6 plus so that will have ios 8 which should be fine. I'll be selling my iphone 5S on eBay jailbroken also on 7.1.2.

I must admit I acted a bit hasty putting IOS 8 so quickly on the iPad. I've always had problems with major upgrades, I should have known better, Apple isn't exactly known for its great software updates.

No problems here.

I'm at 57% after 5.25 hours, and 10.5 hours on standby.

Most if it (82%) has been consumed by Safari.

iPad is relatively (two months) new.

Try a backup and reinstallation.

Not seeing this at all. If anything the battery performance seems a tad better this far. It's always been good for me on my Air though. ?????

No battery issues for me, iPad Air here.

I'm getting over 13 hours of decent use (mostly Safari, Alien Blue, Tapatalk, MyFitnessPal, plus a couple of TV-streaming apps, Virgin Media and Sky Sports).

Plus around 10 hours of standby. Battery life is holding up very well compared to iOS 7.x.x

I did an upgrade though, not a full reinstallation.

I was just going to say mine might have settled down a bit, but nope just as I was going to reply it dropped from 28% to 22% this is getting scary, battery usage says Safari 92%.

I'll do the full recharge and reboot tonight and see what happens.

Really should calibrate your battery after new OS installs too. Also, what is reporting as high usage in settings?

What do you mean by calibrate, full charge?

Battery usage says Safari 92% so that must be the culprit, but it never used to be until IOS 8

I had the same problem when I upgraded from iOS 6 to iOS 7. The battery life reduced to around 6 hours from a full charge.

I checked the settings and even reinstalled my iCloud backup, but the battery life was still bad.

The only option was to do a clean install - connect to iTunes, restore and set up as a new device. After doing this the battery life went back up to around 12 hours.

I’ve done the same thing with iOS 8, not because of battery life, but because it seemed a bit glitchy after the upgrade. I didn't check the battery life before I decided to do the clean install.

It’s early days, but the performance seems much smoother after the clean install and, after 2 hours of use, the battery is still showing 91%.

You do lose some data doing a clean install, progress in games etc, so it’s probably best to only do it as a last resort.

Well I did the hard reboot and drained the battery completely and so far today things seem to be getting back to near normal, battery wise anyway. It looks like being about the same as it was before the upgrade.

The only problem now is that the system seems to be still pretty slow and the websites are slow as well. Hopefully Apple is working feverishly to iron out these problems
