is this true? because this is the only thing i can think of that apple could test to see if its been jailbroken? ive heard this before but wasnt sure if true.

Jailbreaks do not/cannot change your baseband.
That said, using certain functions in Redsn0w allows the intentional preservation, downgrade or change of baseband. But all there are specifically user initiated and not part of routine jailbreak.
