Somewhere Back In The Long Ago
I updated my 4S without issues, took it off the dock and left wifi on. Went ahead to update my iPad and ended up with a DFU brick.

Nothing I did would restore the iPad, but I had a thought.....I ejected the phone, and THEN and ONLY then could I restore and update the iPad.

Had to put everything back of course, but ejecting the phone did the trick.

All is now well again.
