Is it just me or is the iPad 4 battery the worst thing in the world? Claims of 10+ hrs. Mine is a year old and after 3.5 hrs it is dead. Possibly a symptom of the supplies fast charger? I get that apple deliberately degrade batteries for more income but after a year?

3.5 hours doing what and using what settings?
At 100% brightness, I actually wouldn’t be surprised that it dies that quickly after a year of heavy use.
For what it’s worth, I still get around 12 hours on my Air 4, mostly reading and browsing (with AdGuard) at 0-15% brightness. Battery cycle count is at 50 and battery health is still 102%. I use a 30W fast charger but I generally maintain charge between 40-95% (smart plug on timer).
Granted, I alternate between multiple iPads so battery wear is spread out.
General use, mainly YouTube, podcasts, web browsing, Spotify, streaming. Never near 100% brightness, more like 50-60.
3-4 is horrendous given that apple claim 10. Even from new I got 6-7 tops.

A good bunch of factors play into the battery consumption- have you made sure everything is updated and maybe also restored the device to factory settings and started over?
