I've noticed that both mine and my mother's iPads have been randomly dropping out of wifi, and we have to go back to settings to reconnect, anyone know what is causing this and how I can stop this?

Walls. Microwave ovens. People between the iPad the router. Distance (happens often when using neighbor's unprotected WiFi). Reorientation of the iPad. Aluminum between the router and the iPad's antenna. And so on.

If the WiFi drops in and out when the ipad is perfectly still, check for people passing between it and the router.

The biggest challenge for the iPad is that it's a portable device. WiFi radio waves don't pass well through water. Humans are mostly water. The air is also full of competing radio waves. Life is hard if you are an ipad.
