Do the iPad widgets stay in place after the iPad wakes from sleep or do you have to slide them into place every time?

Just tried it - they stay in place.

You can configure it either way. They call it the “today view” and you can have it configured so that it always shows on the home screen (although only in landscape mode) or so that you need to slide over to see it.
