My father’s 13 month old iPhone 11 (1 month out of warranty) stopped latching on to mobile network yesterday. Mobile data showed this error “An update is required to use mobile data on this iPhone”
Trying to update iOS failed, too, perpetually stuck on “verifying update”.
Tried resetting network settings, no joy. After doing a full factory reset, the phone died completely, saying it’s a hardware issue, activation failed.
Apple says the baseband is shot and cannot be repaired. Buying a new phone now.
Spent last 2 days remotely troubleshooting this issue for him (I live many thousand kms away) and just wanted to share this experience with everyone, in case someone else comes across this issue, too.
