Hi,

I have noticed there is an assembly issue in Iphone 12 pro max Indian purchase. There is a gap between Rim and display near to volume buttons and power socket.

Is it something common on iPhone or anyone also seeing the same issue on their iphone 12 pro max.

I have the same very tiny gap on both a 12 Pro and the 12 Pro Max I ultimately replaced it with, the Max along the top and down part of the right hand side, the 12 Pro at the bottom and down part of the left hand side.

Since I strongly doubt I'm that unlucky, I suspect it's a normal consequence of the build process, and that perhaps those saying they don't have it here might not be looking hard enough, and/or are looking specifically in the areas in your videos, which may miss it on their particular phone as the issue clearly isn't consistent in its location.

It's a really slender gap and very hard to see (you kind of need to shine a torch on it at an angle to notice it at all), but if you try sliding a piece of paper where the steel meets the glass around all four sides, I reckon you'll probably eventually find the same thing on any iPhone 12/Pro/Max.

Anyway, not an issue, I'd say.

If that was the case, the gap will be all around the display not just parts of it. In my case, it’s just the left hand side of the display, others at the bottom etc.
Thanks for the reply. Gaps are in different locations on my phone. My concern about whether this will have an impact on water-resistant? spoken with apple customer care and Tech specialist. They don't have an answer. In India, we don't have a refund or return policy like in other countries. I have asked for hand-in hand replacement for a week old phone. I need to give the device to the Apple repair center, they will make a decision on replacement or rectification. Apple told they have sent internal communication to the customer relations group.

They’ll replace it, cos they always do, but I honestly don’t think it’s an issue. There’s a thread on the Apple forum with a number of other people reporting the same gaps. I’ll bet your replacement is no different, but do report back when you get it.

Spoke with Apple CC and he suggested me to check with other phones at different stores. Went and checked, most of the phone has the same issue perhaps on different location.. some don't have..

Please let us know whether Apple replaces the phone. I hope they do. I am from India too so am concerned. I have a iPhone X with a similar gap and it has caused trouble. My hair snags in the gap when speaking on the phone, which is painful. And dust collects in the gap. When the phone was new I had complained and Apple replaced the screen, but that did not fix the problem, the gap was still there. Apple declined to do anything else to fix it, or to replace the phone. I will now hear to wait from you before buying a 12 series phone.

Yes.. India does not have a policy like other countries. Their is no option for return.. I have asked for hand-n-hand replacement, they cannot give it.. Need to send for checking.

Actually it can be a painful issue! Depending on where the gap is located. On my iPhone X the gap is along the top. When talking the phone the gap very often snags the hair and it hurts when I pull the phone away from my ear/head. Sometimes the hair actually pulls right off which us quite painful. I then have to pry the hair off the gap in the phone.

I have no idea about this, but if I were to guess, I would guess it can/and might affect water resistance. To what extent or whether it will actually have any real world impact on you, would be anybody's guess.
