I am considering the 14PM when it comes out and am wondering how resale values change when a new device is announced. My 12PM looks like new and generally in fantastic condition - just got a quote from Music Magpie of £529 which feels fairly sensible given that it is almost 2 years old. THe problem I have is I am on the Apple payment plan and the final one is in December so my concern is that by then that £529 offer would have plummeted.

Hard to say with any certainty, but does anyone know/have any data about how much MM resale values drop by after a new phone is announced? Is it as simple as looking at what they would give for an 11PM now, being 2 years behind the current model as the 12PM will be when the 14 is announced? I guess not as the device is slightly more powerful and therefore not comparing apples with apples (pardon the pun).

I know this is in U.S. dollars, but it might help a little bit:

I've used that site occasionally to sell over the years and it has pretty good data on more popular devices.

I can't speak to what each cell phone buying company will do but cell phones can see varying degrees of value declines throughout the year. How much of a drop there will be following a new iPhone model launch can depend on where Apple prices the new generation phones and how much they drop prices on new 1 and 2 year old models, as well as other factors.

Using Apple U.S. trade-in as an example, Apple valued the 11 Pro Max at $540 in August 2021 (just before the 13s came out) and $450 in December so around 17% lower.

If similar holds true this year, the iPhone 12 Pro Max (currently $600) will be valued at $500 in December.

If Music Magpie is offering £529 now, it may drop to £440 by December. The value will drop but I wouldn't expect it to plummet.

Are you able to pay off your 12PM early? How much of a hit would you take in the proposed £529 sale value?
I thought about this. Have £100 left after my payment on 8th September. So that is very achievable, although that would be the equivalent of waiting and getting £429 in December, say, so I think it’ll be close. At least doing it asap would lock in the guaranteed amount.

There excellent, how did you sell it?

Mine is 128gb but there resale value seems great. US v UK must make a difference.

I will take a look at fb marketplace to get a feeling.

Wow. That's only $69 less than what Apple currently charges for a refurbished (new outer shell, new battery, 1 year warranty) 256GB 12 Pro Max.
better get a certified Apple version if you ask me. saves the hassle.

Music magpie was £485 yesterday and £500 today. Slightly random but still not bad. Just can’t decide whether the new one is worth the upgrade!

I'm getting £545 for my 256GB 12PM from Mazumamobile. Msic magpie was £528 and apple trade in was £460. Didn't think £545 was too bad for a 22 month old phone

Sounds similar to magpie. Just had a look at also £500 for my 12Pm 128gb.
Yeah I’d say the same, just under 50% depreciation in 2 years. You getting a 14? Expecting much upgrade?

Part of me thinking about sweating it for another year and the 12>15 upgrade may be far more noticeable

As i said in the orders thread i was all set to keep my 12PM for another year as it's still a perfectly good phone but i'm such a nerd the dynamic island sold me the 14PM in seconds🤣 14PM in Space Black should arrive tomorrow.

Still it'll be nice upgrade from the 12 with the promotion display and new cameras as well so should last me a couple years at least.

Prices all over the place on completed listings on eBay who you have to give a cut to. And the Swappa and the like I have never tried. I did the trade in via Apple. $530 from Apple, $800 total as I also got $275 from the carrier, Verizon, but that comes as discounts over time, which I was fine with. I also couldn't pay the $400 difference at once, I had to pay over time. So $1199 - $530 = $669 / 36 = $18.58 / month. Less $7.63 / month trade in from Verizon $10.95 per month for 36 months. $395. I usually pay in full so this will be my first installment plan in a long time.

As far as December, I would wait until the holidays to upgrade, as by then you will be paid off and the carriers always come out with crazy good offers just before Christmas.
