Brazil
Here in Brazil, the Federal Revenue frequently sells, in a public auction, contraband products whenever they are seized and collected, and the importer refuses to pay the (sky-high) imports tax. Due to the very high taxes imposed to electronic devices here in Brazil, Apple products are usually in the lists of assets sold in these public auctions.

Yesterday (Nov 22), a Brazilian company bought one iPhone 14 Pro Max for BRL 6.2 million (approximately USD 1.2 million) at one these auctions. The company probably mistyped the amount to be offered in the electronic public auction, as it was likely to offer BRL 6,200 (USD 1,200), which is slightly below market value for the product here in Brazil. This could eventually lead to a judicial dispute if the Federal Revenue refuses to accept the withdrawal of the offer. The news are here: https://g1.globo.com/sp/sao-paulo/n...ilao-da-receita-do-aeroporto-de-cumbica.ghtml.

It was not the first time such a thing has happened. Last month (October 2023), three iPhone 14 Pro Max were sold to an individual at an auction conducted by the Federal Revenue for BRL 12.6 million (approximately USD 2.5 million), also probably because of a mistype (the initial offer was BRL 12,000, or USD 2,500). These iPhone are more expensive than truly luxury limited edition iPhone with gold and diamond.

What’s next? iPhone 15 Pro Max selling for $1.2billion?
