Is the screen width the same in the new 12 mini, or is it slightly smaller?

I’ve had the original SE and the 6S plus in the past and using the smaller 6S now. I think the 4.7” sized phones were perfect size, would be slightly disappointed if the screen width is significantly smaller in width.

it’s hard to tell from the screenshots, but they look very similar - has anyone printed out a 1:1 rendering?

You dont need a rendering you just need to look up specs on exact dimensions.

I haven't seen the exact dimensions of the screen anywhere yet, but it appears to be the same width as their 4.7" screens, just taller. The 12 mini is 3 mm narrower than the 2020 SE, but I think that mostly comes from eliminating the curves on the sides of the phone.

Just do some math, guys. Apple already provided you with the necessary numbers (resolution and PPI).

Display width:
  • iPhone 12 mini - 2.27"
  • iPhone SE - 2.30"

Display height:
  • iPhone 12 mini - 4.92"
  • iPhone SE - 4.09"

It might be worth noting that the display height difference isn't quite what it would seem there, at least depending on how you're using it, because of the notch. Taking out the notch, I measure the height of the iPhone 12 mini display at about 4.69". The aspect ratio can also affect screen usage. In landscape mode, a youtube video on the iPhone 12 mini ends up only about 4.06" wide, which I'm guessing probably ends up being about the same as it would be on the SE (since the other dimension of the SE is about the same).

I have both, and the 12 Mini's 5.4" screen is slightly narrower than the 4.7" screens on the 6, 6S, 7, 8, SE2 and SE3.

Do JPack's figures look right to you? Display area (portrait mode) 2.27" on the 12 mini, 2.3" on the SE2? IOW, about 1/32 of an inch difference?

Yes Jpack's figures look about right to me. Basically the 12 Mini display is narrower and taller, so better for scrolling.
