Hey Guys,

Hoping someone can help me. I was trying to create a back of my iPhone 8 Plus (that's been complaining about low disk space) for days. I am getting a new iPhone this week, so wanted a fresh backup ready to go. Well, while I was backing it up, it started doing an infinite loop, and then I put it in DFU mode, and now that's all it does (even with a hard reset).

I know I should have had more backups (my fault), but is there ANY way (3rd party program) I can use to access my phone's data, or even somehow create a backup with the phone in DFU mode or some kind of 'safe' mode, so I can restore it on my new iPhone that is coming in a few days?

Thanks in advance to everyone for your time and help, it is greatly appreciated!

I'm not familiar with a hard reset on the iPhone 8, but you've tried this?

• For iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X, quick-press the Volume Up button, then quick-press the Volume Down button, then hold down the Side button until the device reboots.

From here: https://www.theiphonewiki.com/wiki/DFU_Mode

If that doesn't work, there are some jailbreak apps (one such is Reiboot) that have tools to kick iDevices out of DFU Mode. Might try one of those.

iMazing might also give you access for backups if all of that fails.

I have done the hard reset and it just goes back into the DFU mode. What I really want is to be able to create a backup in iTunes (finder in newer MacOS versions) with the iPhone in some shape way or form.

Try iMazing. I've never used it myself, but its always had good reviews here.

Maybe this will help.

So, I attempted the hard reset and choosing to 'update' but it basically resets itself and goes back to this screen after it reboots:

Not sure if it was due to me running iOS 14.5 Beta 2 previously, and when I click update it's trying to install iOS 14.4 (official latest release).

You won't be able to backup your device no matter what you try. Running out of free space on an iOS device causes all sorts of issues like the one your describing. The last backup you made is the only one you'll be able to use for your new phone. Your 8+ isn't useless, you just need to restore it and setup as new without a backup and it will work fine. Of course all the data will be gone but the phone will work normally. I know it sucks but that's why a 20% cushion is suggested for free space so things like this won't occur.. Error 14 is what usually comes up on iTunes when this happens and there are many threads on it in this forum such as:

Thanks for the details bugeyeSTI. Is there any hope since my iPhone failed during a backup, that I was able to save some data? If I look at the location where backups are created in MacOS (~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/), I see files and data there....thoughts?

Thanks for the information!

The problem which seems to arise when data is is attempted to be recovered by specialists is the data is encrypted so even if they get something it's usually gibberish and unreadable.. You could try to find a 3rd party specializing in recovery to see what your options are...
