iPhone 8/X in Japan

So I'm starting to travel to Japan a lot. I want to try out the Apple Pay for the vending machines/subway systems, but my iPhone 7 wasn't compatible with the NFC they have in Japan. Apparently you need to buy an iPhone 7 in Japan in order to get Japan specific NFC capabilities.

Anyone know if this is the same case for iPhone 8 and X?

found the answer to my own question, incase anyone googles this up. answer is yes, all iphone 8/x/apple watch 3's will support Global Felica that works in japan. https://atadistance.net/2017/09/12/iphone-x-keynote-global-felica/
