i really want them, i had in ear headphones for my nano, and going from them to the included iPhone headphones was a big drop in quality

i bought the V-Moda Vibe Duo. You can't go wrong there. The only down-side is that you can pause, play, and skip songs. The mic works beautifullys.

Typical Apple BS. Why the hell did the headphone jack have to be different? These adapters are fugly and another thing to carry and lose.

Who would have thought that an exacto knife would be the most useful iPhone accessory?

I am pretty sure the headphone jack design is to prevent a repeat of early ipods. The jack would crack or the solder joints would weaken where the jack connected to the circuit board. By recessing the jack the actual plug becomes strain relief so that accidental yanks pull on the body of the iphone, and NOT on the actual jack.
