A new idea for an iPhone program: Paint.

It can be done with javascript: http://chat.ma.la/draw.html

I think that it would be awesome if someone developed a paint website that allowed users to choose colors and brush widths etc. and actually saved what you drew for later.

You could use your finger to write notes on the screen and have the website store the information so when you go back to it, what you wrote is still there.

Can anyone develop something like this?

I just threw together from scratch a very basic drawing app using the <canvas> element. Maybe I'll polish it up and release it publicly :)

Update: Well, I've been working for a while on this, and have it working nicely. I'm working with someone else on a UI, so hopefully we'll have something tomorrow for you iPhoners to test :)

Hmm, it doesn't work with my app. I try to drag and paint but the entire screen drags.

Anyone else experiencing this?

EDIT: Can somebody with an IPhone test this and tell me if it works/not zoomed out?

Thanks!

Tried it, and keeps dragging window around, cant really write on screen because of the drag. Slecting colors seems to work, but cant write on the screen.

I'll request an enhancement to canvas

It seems like the iPhone doesn't support mouse movement events :(

Sorry guys, no paint app.

Your finger is the stylus and the iPhone can only detect it when it touches the screen. When you touch and move your finger MobileSafari pans the page around: hence no mouse movement or mouse over events.

I'll go into Apple's bug reporter and request an enhancement property to canvas to allow it to opt out of panning when you touch it and allow mousemovement events.

Update: request submitted, #5306311.

iPhone Sketch prototype

Hi,

Would love your feedback on this little app I've cobbled together - note we have the limitation of iPhone only sending clicks, so you can't drag to create a line.

See if it makes sense to you, and let me know if you think it is worth working on...

Thanks!

So far so good. It'd be great if there was a way to make it into almost a pen tool like in illustrator but that would require dragging which seems to not be possible. Looking good though

Stylus/two finger scroll

This drawing app would have to somehow incorporate the two finger scroll as you would for the iPhone in certain pages.

As a side note, is there any pointer/stylus other than your finger that will work on the iPhone screen?
