Iphone ringtone and Speaker quality

Im not sure if its me or not, but my iPhone speaker is horrible. Seems worse to me then when i first bought it. Regardless, is there any way to make the ringtones louder? I use Audiocity {not sure if thats the exact spelling] to make the ringtones and is there a certain setting or anything that i can change to get the best quality out of the ringtone and my iPhone? Maybe the same quality of the iTunes ringtones or the default ringtones?

how does it compare to a song playing through the ipod? (im assuming you made a ringtone out of a song?)

I could never hear my ring. I mad a custom ringtone. Just a plain generic cell phone ring but I boosted the volume quite a bit and shortened the pause between rings. It can startling loud. I'll send it to you if you want to try it.
