iPhone SE (2016) iPhone SE Won't Update: Does Horrible Repeating Chime

As you probably suspect from the title, my iPhone SE 2020 won't update with iTunes on my MBPro; just keeps repeating that maddening chime. In the past I tried restarting iTunes and the iPhone and that usually resolved. I have tried several different cables, all of which work with the wall USB charger. I think it may still be a matter of iTunes rejecting the cable? Please share any fixes you may have. Thank you in advance.

Could be the cable(s). Seen that with all sorts of other iPhones with my family, especially with the cables Apple ships. If I switch from their cable to one of my cables (Anker) things are OK.

You didn't mention Mojave and iTunes versions. Apple says you need "Mojave 10.14.6 using iTunes 12.8 or later", so might be running into some issues there as well, even though it worked in the past.
