I am thinking of getting the iPhone 3G and giving my daughter my Iphone v1 to be used as a iPOD Touch (ie - no phone). She will be on Verizon for a while. Should this work? Will it be just like the IPOD Touch?

i'm pretty sure i read somewhere that's exactly what ya get if you upgrade. funny, it didn't work like that before though....i'd just call at&t, is it gonna stop you from 3g? just don't expect it and have a merry time walking out if it does turn out to be that way haha

My old iPhone is still functional as an iPod Touch, and it will be a full day since upgrade in two hours, so I think it will stay working.

I can confirm that it works fine as an ipod touch. The only issue I found was that when I went to update my 2g iphone to the 2.0 software, it required a sim card in the slot.

Once I had upgraded, I could remove the sim though.
