OK... probably a super-easy, gimme question:

When I select a photo to import it into iPhoto (4.0.3), the preview pane shows a JPG icon with information, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to make it a preview of the picture.

When I select a JPG photo in Finder, the preview works great and I can see what the photo I am trying to work with.

This is frustrating as it is hard to know what photos you are selecting for import without being able to preview the file.

I am missing a configuration or is this just a problem with iPhoto?

Many thanks in advance!

i think its more an issue having to do with the importing menu, its basically like an open/save dialouge box, which also do not show previews, it kinda sucks to be honest and i feel your pain, i wish it would work better myself
