I finally got my hands on a 1st generation iPod classic, something I’ve been wanting a while. It was untested but it thankfully does work. The only issue is the menu button does not work 90% of the time. It was working when I first got it just about a week ago and now it hardly ever works and it’s been nowhere other than sitting on my desk. I took it apart and blew it out but that didn’t improve it. It’s not stiff and doesn’t feel like there’s junk in it. Anybody have any ideas?

I have issue with select button in my iPod 1st gen.
I also take a wheel apart by sticking small piece of duct tape on the wheel and gently lift off.
There is four rubber buttons, ball bearing and there is a pin in the centre. Did you took it apart from the front?
Maybe the top rubber grey stand which correspond to menu button is displaced or shaved off slightly?
