the buttons don't work anymore so I can't choose tracks or go to the menu is this worth repairing? I have my music on it and used a lot when it was working right.

Oh yeah it’s repairable! I fix these as a side gig. It could just be the click wheel or the hold switch, both of which are about $15 parts.

Does it still scroll or click at all? What happens when you toggle the hold switch?

hold seems to work but I can barely do play and pause and maybe do volume but anything else I can't do.

Also it has trouble connecting or charging.

I’ve seen one Classic so far that I couldn’t fix.

More than likely there’s either a loose connection inside, or a component has simply begun to fail and simply needs to be replaced and you’ll be back in business!

iPad classic is classed by Apple as vintage. They don't repair them anymore , however you can still get it repaired independently.

If it’s gonna get cracked open, upgrade it to 256GB or so of solid-state storage. That hard drive is at least 8 years old now… not saying “it’s gonna die tomorrow” but it might ;) so before you sink money into repair, consider the upgrade too.

Just a small note for anyone seeing this - I was able to fix it, and it ended up being corrosion on a few parts. Replaced the click wheel, the 30-pin dock connector, the five face buttons, the battery connector, and it's working good as new!

Not anymore. It's on the Obsolete list which means that Apple won't touch it, sadly.

Fortunately, there's a cottage industry of techs who will and can improve them, too. Yes!

Question, still fix ipods as a side gig? Have a 7th gen ipod classic 160 Gb whose HD quit. Would like to revive it with new HD & upgrade capacity.
