iPod ipod shuffle and iTunes

hi guys!
i'm thinking of (finally) getting an iPod.. but as they are still somewhat expensive for me, the Shuffle is a really nice option.
I was just wondering if it has the same functionally when using iTunes. Does it show up as an iPod like the other ones? Can we do the same things in iTunes with the Shuffle? like synch and stuff..?

Shuffle is nice -- 1gb owner me. It shows up as an iPod in iTunes...
It has Autofill etc... but slow filling time.

But when you hear of the new iPod Minis & the price-drop on existing iPod Mini models... get a Mini if you can. I'm annoyed that I've got mine instead of the old iPod Mini...
