While it may seem silly, some people looked forward to seeing what the new wallpapers and desktop backgrounds were in a new OS release. Over the past few years, Apple seems to be using less photos and more graphical ones. Excluding the graphical ones, iOS 16 only has the clownfish wallpaper, but that has been used before. iOS 15 didn't have any new ones that I recall. Same goes for Monterey and Ventura. Personally, I don't really care, but just something I've thought/wondered about.

Anyone have any speculation on why this is? Are they wanting people to use their own photos now? I did notice iOS 16 suggested some nice ones from my photos that I would have never thought of using for wallpaper.

It's just part of the long march that Gramsci described. No surprises.
