Is something wrong with my new 2021 iMac 24”?

I just received this iMac about 6 days ago. I ordered it officially through the Apple website. When I turned it on, the screen looked a little odd to me. Like there was too much light internal light shining through the display causing it to look overly bright and washed out in some areas. If you’ve seen what these new iMacs look like in person or if you have one yourself, is this how the screen is supposed to look? I just find it odd that my 9 year old MacBook screen looks better than this.

Also I should note that the internal light brightness changes depending on what angle I’m staring at the computer screen. I’m trying to figure out if I should send this in for a replacement. Thanks in advance! I’ll attach some pictures so you can see what I’m talking about. The background I selected is a solid black background, so there areas that seem overly bright is not a part of the background.

I also included a picture of it next to my laptop so you can see then difference without the super bright light areas.

Appears to be uneven backlighting. Since the machine is so new and still under the 14 day free return period, I would send it back to Apple and ask for a replacement. Or, if you have an Apple Store nearby, take it back to them. The local Apple Store here in my area has the new 24" iMacs in stock but some stores do not. You probably should check first before taking it back to an Apple Store.

This kind of thing is extremely difficult to evaluate properly via pictures, as even a properly working display will look bad in average pictures, since it it's hard to expose properly (since it is a direct light source) and ambient lighting can also affect the image. But if you aren't happy with it, I'd suggest returning it before it's too late. IF there's something wrong with it, I'd say it's highly unlikely you'd get 2 in a row with the same problem.

Yea I know what you mean, but when staring at the computer screen from any angle that’s not straight on, this is actually how bad it looks to the naked eye. My iMac was customized so I’m sure I’ll have to send it back for a replacement since I had upgraded ram and storage added to mine. Thanks!

Thank you for your input! I thought the same thing but just wanted to make sure this isn’t how the display was supposed to look before having to go through the hassle of sending it back and waiting for another one.
