But if the screen is flat, why have a screen protector with a black border?

No idea, it's 3rd party so you'd be better off asking them why the edges are black, it's nothing to do with curved glass though.

Because it looks nicer with a black border to the edge. Otherwise, it looks obvious there is a glass protector.

Also, the edges inevitably pick up dust and dirt. With a painted full screen protector, you don’t see it.
