Depends on what kind of musician.

If you’re planning on reading music at all, you know how important it is to have a traditional pencil. Writing on your paper is crucial and I consider the pencil indispensable in rehearsal.

Hope this helps

Are there any composition/tab apps that use the Pencil?

StaffPad is a big one for composition. There’s also Dorico and Sibelius that take advantage of the pencil.

ForScore is a great PDF reader designed for musicians that allows for annotation and all kinds of features. It’s very much worth it in my opinion.

Sibelius and Dorico also just launched for iPad and they are fantastic!! Sibelius takes better advantage of the Pencil, I greatly prefer Dorico because it is basically the Mac app on iPad with full MIDI keyboard input support and external QWERTY support.

It's moot because I bought it. We'll see how useful it is.
