Is the Red Badge for App Store Updates New?

Over the past couple of days, the red badge with the app update count in the App Store has stood out to me as something new (I could be wrong). This is the same look as the iOS software update badge.

Figured it out.

Two days ago, I disabled “App Updates” in App Store settings. This causes the red badge to appear. With this setting enabled, the alternate appearance is set.

That also explains the difference in language AVAILABLE UPDATES / UPCOMING AUTOMATIC UPDATES
