So I've never had an iPad before and I'm wondering if there is an option for 1440p on the YouTube app. I have an iPhone 6s right now and the screen just isn't cutting it for movies/YouTube videos. Any iPad is ok, but I prefer an iPad mini. Would really appreciate if someone knows or would look for me. I went to Best Buy to look, but they don't allow downloading apps... Thanks!

It's a bit odd to ask for 1440p on a "non-pro" iPad.

Most videos are recorded at a 16:9 ratio. This means that 1440p would require a horizontal resolution of 2560. "Non-pro" iPads are limited to a horizontal resolution of 2048.

You'd end up really only utilizing 2048 x 1152 or 1152p at the most... not really a great step up from 1080p. I suppose you'd get ~13% more resolution...

Ok... So I'll probably get some other tablet then. Maybe the Galaxy Tab S.

This is actually a decent idea if your primary use case for a tablet is viewing videos. Before the iPad, "media player" devices were quite popular, and came in the 16:9 ratio.

If you're getting the older tab S with a 16:9 ratio, they should still sport a 2560x1600 resolution, which fits in perfectly with a 2560x1440 (i.e. 1440p) video. Note that the newer S2 takes its cues from the iPad, and has the same 2048x1536 resolution.

Thanks for all the replies guys :). I think I'll be ok with just 1080p for most videos.
