Is this a good 8GB RAM kit for my MBP 2011 13"? I've been wanting to upgrade from 4 to 8 for a while, to minimize the pinwheels of death I've been getting lately.

I don't know much about RAM brands. I also see a very similar one in the recommended section for $5 cheaper. Are there any better or worse models, and what factors contribute to their efficacy?

One is 10666, one is 10600. Functionally identical, though Apple specifies and uses 10600.

The 10600 RAM comes with a 4 GB thumb drive if that's needed.

You'll need your own screwdriver.

Thanks, I ordered the $39.99 one last night. It did also come with the free 4GB microsd/sd, can't have too many of those I guess :)

Go to Radio Shack, they sell a kit of four or five little screwdrivers in a blue plastic case with a clear cover. It's a main item they've been stocking for years, they all have them and they are very good for a very low price.

Remember today's memory is only made by three major manufacturers, then re-labeled for the various companies. Samsung being one very large manufacturer not only do they sell chips with the Samsung name, but they also label some for the other manufacturers that buy from them.

Also ram is a commodity item so it's hard to go wrong. Even the least expensive brands if it's from a name you recognize, it's just fine.

You can't go wrong sourcing your ram from either Newegg, or Amazon.
