Hi,

The Dock seems to function differently in Monterey (not sure if it's in newer MacOSes too).

When I launch an app it seems to rather than just showing active and then when the App quits removing it, it "keeps" it in the Dock. You can manually remove it again, but the next time the App is launched it is added again.

How can I stop this?

All the Best
Dave

Even earlier versions offered the option to "keep recent applications in the dock" after they have been quit.
Is this what you are referring to?
You can verify the setting here:
System Settings > Desktop & Dock > Show recent applications in Dock

Hmmm. It sounds like the default is to show the 3 most recently used apps in the Dock. If one isn't using many apps, one of those 3 might not be so "recent" so it could seem to be permanent.

Yes, that seems to be the case. I have switched off the recent apps option and I'm happy with it now
