I just went through my music collection on my iTunes music. Most of my music were CD imports (ripped from CDs).
1) I’ve noticed there were significant difference in file size which CAN? affect the sound quality. I have noticed I had
MPEG files:
160 Kbps
192 kbps
256 kbps
320 kbps
230 kbps (VBR)
242 kbps (VBR)
246 kbps (VBR)
248 kbps (VBR)
249 kbps (VBR)
AAC Audio File: 128 kbps
Purchased AAC: 256 kbps
And
Apple Lossless:
Many wee over 900 Kbps
What is the difference between MPEG and VBR? And which one is outdated format ? Are they really bad? (Unfortunately I no longer own many of the original CDs I ripped them from ) AND which format/quality does Apple iTunes music and Amazon Music purchase download currently use ?
2) In iTunes import setting, there are
Import setting option:
AAC encoder (high quality 128 kbps, iTunes Plus. Spoken podcast,
AIFF Encoder
Apple Lossless Encoder
MP3 Encoder (128-192 kbps)
WAV Encoder
Ive heard the Apple Lossless is the best setting when ripping the CDs and it compresses to to save space ? Is this better than current itune music /amazon music purchase ?
