I'm trying to connect my iPhone iOS 14.8 to iTunes on OS 10.14.7 and I keep getting a message stating won't connect without updating software. Going through software update the only software available is Big Sur. My question with iOS14.8 do I have to upgrade to Big Sur or is there a workaround to stay with Mojave?

Any insights are appreciated. Thanks

What I read above doesn't read right.

What you want to do is:
1. Download the BS update.
2. When it's done DLing, the installer will open and ask you to approve the rest of the install.
3. DON'T APPROVE the INSTALL!, close the app and eject the package. The BS installer will sit in your Applications folder. Just leave it there all nice and comfy. Just make sure you don't accidentally execute the whole thing. I'm being hounded to install Monterey Beta.
4. See what happens with what you are trying to do after you do this.
5. If it fails, restart your machine.

Also look under the OS install banner for some smaller type indicating that there is other software to install that you might need. But it's not the BS installer that now should say "Open". Click on the small text link, not the "more info" inside the box with the OS. That should bring up a list of what is going to be installed.

Anyone feel free to add to or correct me.

Good Luck!

You don't need to go through software update.
When you have iTunes open and connect your phone, you should get a message to upgrade.
Click the upgrade button and it will install additional files to let you see a more modern iOS version.

Just another way Apple forces us to upgrade to new devices, but can't handle my network. Very strange behavior.

Anyone a suggestion to solve this alledged network problem:

iPhone XS - iOS 16.1.1
MP5.1 - macOS 10.14.6

Thanks in advance. Have a great weekend!

FYI, I recently updated my IPad Pro to 16.1.1
Just connected it to my Mac (10.14.6), downloaded and installed the update fine, and connects in iTunes.
