Hi

New to this so please be gentle.

I want to install Plex on my Apple TV2

I have made several attempts to update my ATV2 without success.

There seems to be specific Pwnage tools and restore files that match.

I have built a file but I get an error in Itunes saying it cannot verify the retore file (I am using Itunes 10.3.1)

So my question is:

I have an Apple TV2 with Build 4.2.2. (2203)

What Pwnage build do I need?
What Firmware do I need?

Not sure if it matters but I ma in Australia.

Thanks

Hans

If you tell us more about the specific step you're stuck at we can be more helpful.

I've specifically used Pwnagetool to JB my ATV2 (twice) so I can probably be pretty helpful.

Read this thread first because it overviews a lot of the common issues that cause people problems when first JB'ing their ATV2: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1188724/

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply.

Your links helped a lot (Its nice to see others have the same problem)

This may be the solution:

3) Alter your etc/hosts file to make sure iTunes doesn't communicate with the Apple server when it's installing the custom IPSW file - because Apple doesn't digitally "sign" custom IPSWs (because they don't approve of jailbreaking!)

Would you know a good place to follow instructions on how to do this?

I tried, and it worked well, but it still stops when it attempts to contact apple.

I opened terminal and entered this line into my ect/hosts file

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

But it still fails.

I am using Itunes 10.3.1, I am not sure if it has changed since there.

Do you have any other tips? Please :(

Did you do the first two steps (you posted step #3 in the list I provided)? Tell us exactly what you did.

I got it working

This is how I did it....

Went to Work, and on my windows machine downloaded season pass.

Altered the Host file to point to the other server.

10 Minutes later all worked.

I am thinking it might be a issue with Lion.

I went home, installed Plex (easier then I thought)

Then sat up till 1am enjoying the marvels of this.

DrEnalg. thanks so much for your help with this.... I really appreciate it.

Will there be a reason to Jailbreak it again in the future? Does Apple update the system and will I have to do this all over again?

Regards

Hans
