Apple TV Jailbreak?

I bought an Apple TV and I connected it to my mac via the micro USB cable that came with my Passport External Hard Drive. The connection powers the apple TV (I know this because the light comes on), but nothing else happens. I can't see it in system profiler, itunes does nothing, DFU mode may or may not be coming up after performing the steps (because the computer doesn't acknowledge it in any state). I've attempted the same thing with other macs and they all has the same issue. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Plug the power cord to the apple tv for a few seconds then remove it & start the jailbreak
