Everything seems nice to me. Of course there's the slight lag with spotlight but that doesn't bother me.

So my question is, what am I missing by not being on 7.1.2? I'm definitely not going to 8 but obviously that's the only thing I can upgrade to. Are the later versions of iOS 7 faster and more stable?

Just bought a 4S with iOS 7.0.2

I believe 7.0.4 had some security fixes. IIRC, you can get those fixes with a Cydia tweak.

Hmm, ideally I'd like to go 7.1.2 just because it annoys me to not be on the last version. Will jailbreaking just to update iOS slow the phone down or give me issues?

The jailbreak would be to apply a patch to 7.0.4. I don't remember if the result would be the same as having 7.1.2.

I don't think so, but I'm not sure. I think the only way to update iOS is the normal way. Then you would have to re-jailbreak.

Currently, 7.1.2 is not being signed by Apple.

No if you update it goes to iOS 8.Apple isn't signing iOS 7 for the 4S,the iPhone 4 is the only phone stuck at 7.1.2

Are you guys absolutely positive? I heard another member say the only way you could update was with a jailbreak. Jailbreaking was going to be my last resort. :(

Thanks guys. I'll just stick it out on iOS 7.0.2 unless 8 gets an update that completely speeds it up to iOS 7 speeds. Hopefully I don't run into any issues that were fixed in a later version of iOS 7. Every seems smooth now though.

OP: There is NO way to put iOS 7.1.2 on that device. Apple isn't signing it, so you can't do anything, even by jailbreaking it to get that version. Only option is to update to iOS 8.1, which is crap. Sorry. I'd keep it on 7.0.2.

That is ironic because iOS 7.0 is slower than 7.1 is. (It is more unstable than newer versions too) BTW it was 7.0.6 with the security fixes.

The next version of iOS 8 is supposed to bring "performance improvements for iPhone 4s" so maybe you should look into getting that when it releases.
