Kevin Browne, head of Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit (MacBU), will leave the department at the end of October to take a new job with the company's XBOX division, according to an email sent out today by Microsoft. Browne has spent nearly 6 years in the MacBU, 3 years as general manager. Microsoft has not yet determined who will fill the MacBU GM position. "This new job offers Kevin the opportunity to learn new skills, work with a group of customers who are extremely passionate about great software (just like Mac users), and pursue his personal interests in games and sports," said Microsoft spokeswoman Tamara Otto in the email.

I suspsect that he is a bit disenchanted with the current relationship and its foibles, with which he has to contend.

On the other hand, XBox needs direction.
