OS X League of Legends - Can anyone tell me what this error message means?

I'm trying to play League of Legends on Mac but I keep getting this error message "UserKernel has quit unexpectedly"

The relevant part of the message I think is: "*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSImageCacheException', reason: 'Cannot lock focus on image <NSImage 0x53b100 Size={0, 0} Reps=( )>, because it is size zero.'"

Does anyone have any idea what this indicates the problem could be? Already updated to the latest Mac OS, tried re-installing the game and updated my graphics drivers. Also ensured firewall is down and that I have admin status and permissions to "Read and Write" the applications.

Any ideas??

Sierra 10.12 I just updated but I was getting the same message before I updated. Macbook Pro mid 2010.
