Yesterday, I decided to rollback my Thinkpad to Windows 7 because I've been having wake from sleep issues and connectivity issues. After getting everything installed, the Thinkpad finally saw my NAS (a PowerMac G4 running Leopard).

But the moment I changed the Thinkpad into a different workgroup, the NAS disappeared. I knew that was because the SMB filesharing on the NAS was still stuck in the 'WORKGROUP' workgroup.

I've been meaning to try and fix this. Every time I set it to a different workgroup in System Preferences it never stuck. So, I looked around and turns out it's a bug in Leopard.

Here's my source: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1949454

And here is what to do to resolve it:
"Click on the Location drop down in System Preferences > Network. Select Edit Locations...

Highlight the Automatic location and click on the settings drop down (next to the + and - buttons... looks like a gear) and select Duplicate Location. This creates a location called Automatic Copy. Edit the workgroup name under that location and apply.

Then go back to the settings and remove the Automatic location and rename Automatic Copy to just Automatic. Problem solved."

End result:

I've never really run into this problem, but I've also never really shared a G4 for Windows PCs before. Usually it's been the other way around.

Posting this for the community and anyone else out there that runs into this.
