True enough, but there are these other machines... called Desktops, that can be shared by many people.
I have my desktop iMac. My Wife has her own iMac.
Neither is to be touched by the kids.
We have a laptop that we have all 3 of our kids using and a couple of adults as well when traveling. Each person needs their own account or they simply would mess up what other people are doing.
We have been doing it for over 10 years this way. When our machine was a linux laptop we had many nice simple login screens with separate accounts for each of the kids. They were always tidy and simple to use. Highly customizable for the kids to put their own icons on or create their own.
Not sure why it is a difficult to understand that needs vary with different people.
Having large cludgy icons where you have to swipe around to get at ones own personal login is unnecessary.
Would love to have the ability to customize the experience to our needs. That is how things should be rather then simple Giant Icons for each person. Defeats simplicity and functionality.
Even a simple list would be far better.... all on the screen at the same time.

Ok, thank you guys for the replies.
I guess what I thought happened was that I installed Mojave and the icons were the same and then that day I actually noticed them being different and thought maybe I had done something to cause the change.
What I'm hearing is that this is how Mojave is and I just didn't notice the change right right away.
I guess I initially set up accounts for my family to be able to back up everyones phone and I wanted to keep everything separated by family member. No one but me really uses it, but they are set up on it just for that purpose.
Maybe I'm going crazy, but... I don't remember the log in icons ever being this large. They used to all line up and fit in the screen and were smaller. Now they are larger and only fit a few on the screen, there is a beginning and ending vertical threshold on the left and right where the icons don't go past...
Am I crazy? did my cat walk on the keyboard and do something?

I was poking around because I have the absurdly large Icon problem since Beta Testing Mojave on the laptop.
One thing I found is that this helps somewhat since I have 7 accounts on the laptop.
System Preferences--> Display --> Resolution: (Click Scaled) --> Choose More Space
You might need glasses though, but it will make the screens hold more info, more windows. It will look more like a tiny desktop.
Best of all is the icon size on the login Screen get much smaller.
Still have some scrolling with my 7 accounts, but at least it isn't showing only 3 or 4 now.... and scrolling the rest.
Wish the login icons would be vertical.
Pain in my Petoot is what apple has made this. I would love to simply stack the icons in a decending and customizable row. Simple, Orderly, No pesky scrolling
