I use my iPad when I coach my kids' soccer teams. I used to put my old iPad 3 into a Griffin Survivor every Friday night and take it back out every Sunday night (to big/bulky to use that way all week long). It got too dusty in a regular folio case and, of course, if it rained that was a whole other problem.

Looking for something similar but cheaper for my Air 2. Willing to sacrifice some drop protection for cost savings...

Any suggestions?

I use the Supcase on my iPad air when working, I have one for my iPhone also.
I think they are a good case, and fairly inexpensive.

How easy/difficult to put the case on and take it off? I like to go back to a folio or Smart Cover and back during the week...

Coolbo is a great iPad Air 2 water proof case and it costs under 30 dollars. My wife uses Coolbo too and she is quite happy with it. You can find entire list of water proof cases here.
