Hi all,

Trying to get an old Macintosh monitor (color) with DB-15 cable/connector. Have struck out on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. Afraid to buy an old CRT monitor on eBay and having it bust in shipping, though I am open to it - just would need to somehow trust the seller. Any thoughts on how to get one?

Reason why is I ran across an old Quadra 630. This Mac was the very first Mac I ever had, and now I am set on trying to get a monitor and ADB Keyboard and mouse to go along with it.

Thoughts on how to get one in decent condition?

If you must have a period accurate monitor, I can only think of buying local where you can view the item in person and collect/transport it yourself.

Older original Apple monitors may need some TLC/repair to be reasonably useful. :(

Otherwise a Mac to SVGA adapter (with 8 or 10 switches) and a more recent LCD might be a better option.

Knowing your location may assist other members in your quest. Good luck.

I've just had a look at prices on eBay in the US. Fixed resolution monitors (640x480) from the period are fairly pricey in working condition - around $200.

The LC630 doesn't support much more than 832x624 and that is only 8bit color :(

So an 'Apple Color Display' M1212 14" (brittle plastics these days)
or 'Performa Plus Display' - sold as several models (some 240VAC only) from different manufacturers
or 'Apple Color Plus 14″ Display' M1787 or M2346
or 'Apple Basic Color Monitor' M9103
or 'Apple Multiple Scan 14 Display' M4222
or 'Apple Multiple Scan 15 Display' (with fixed video cable) M2943
or 'Apple Multiple Scan 15AV Display' M4681

'AudioVision 14 Display' M2001 - same basic monitor as M1212 with speaker enclosure - requires an adapter (cable marked with: 590-0793)

You could also look for a 'Apple Multiple Scan 15 Display' M2978 - though it's capabilities would be somewhat wasted. Ensure you get the Apple 2-row 15pin cable for this one, since the socket on the back is a 3-row (high density) SVGA connector.

And if I can interest you in a long drive, the Vintage Computer Federation is having a swap-meet in Wall Township, NJ.
I can't really can't say this is a recommendation since living in Australia is a bit of a trek for a swap-meet. ;)

@MacTech68 - I think I am most interested in M1212 Apple Color Display. You say "brittle plastics these days" - but not on the others. Can you elaborate?

That swap-meet is very interesting. I don't have much to swap other than cash though :) I'm going to look into it, only about an hour and a half drive.

I know for certain that the M1212 and the AudioVision 14" were some of the earliest to display brittle plastic - undoing screws tends to break the plastic. Others weren't so bad. However, that information is now about 15 years old.
