I have a mid 2010 15-inch MBP (6,2). I am running Sierra and just upgraded to an SSD. It is running sweet now.

I want to upgrade to High Sierra because I'd like to get updates for some software (Chrome for example which can no longer be updated on Sierra). Although my MBP is running so well now, so I don't want to screw things up.

Any issues with upgrading to High Sierra? Also, if I do it, is it best to just download it from the App Store to my hard drive and install it, or should I go this route: "On an Intel-based Mac, if you use Option-Command-R during startup, you might be offered the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac." Also, I am not doing a clean install, just want to update with all my data/apps intact.

I'm pretty sure High Sierra is the highest I can go on this machine. I believe Mojave won't run on it?

Also, I came across this, https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1970?locale=en_US
a link to download "macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 Combo Update", but don't know what it is?! I know I would install it after upgrading to High Sierra, but is it necessary and/or does the version on the App Store already have it?

You need the full High Sierra installer app which will install 10.13.6, it is the final version. You will not the Combo Update.

You are right, High Sierra is the max Apple supported macOS for your 2010 MBP.

Here is a link to an Apple page with a link to the full High Sierra installer:

there
Is High Sierra better now for MacBook Air 2010 with 4GB of RAM?
when that os was launched i remember having sponging ball issues,
so I went back to Mountain Lion until Mojave was released.
Sierra seems to be perfect on the MBA2010 for now, ElCap was great until this February.
thanks in advance

Well I have had no problems with High Sierra and it allowed me to upgrade Chrome and Safari so I can maybe squeeze another year or two out of this machine!
